In today's reading we see that Jesus is questioned by the Pharisees about eating with the tax collector Matthew. We know that Matthew (a sinful tax collector) was very willing to leave everything and follow Christ. Jesus responds to the Pharisees, "Those who are well do not need a physician, but he sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' I didn't come to call the rightious, but the sinners" Here we can really sink our teeth into what Jesus is all about. He came to heal us, restore what was, make right what we have wronged, and leave the whole flock of sheep for the one that strayed. He has so much mercy for us and wants us to be merciful onto each other as well. He came so that we, who are broken and weak, might not only have life, but new and beautiful life created from HIm. Matthew knew he yearned for healing, just like when we are ill, we want to get better. What can we do to feel better today?
